INSTRUCTIONAL STYLE:Instruction at San Andreas is primarily individualized and student centered: Teachers work with smaller classes of approximately 15 to 20 students and individualize instruction as much as possible, tailoring units to student interest and academic needs. This kind of instruction is essential for the majority of our students, as they have come to find group instruction in the larger classroom to be increasingly difficult for them.
TEACHER/COUNSELOR/ADVISOR: One indication of the many hats we wear
is the combination of our teachers also serving as counselors and advisors to
the students. The teachers and the principal double as counselors, setting aside
time in weekly schedules to meet with students. San Andreas also has a half-time school counselor.
CURRICULUM
SA offers a complete district-approved curriculum for graduation including language arts, social studies, government, math, science, computers, art, PE and wide range of electives.
TECHNOLOGY - Extensive integration of technology with a combination of fiber optic and CAT 5 wiring, two computer labs and computers in most of our other classrooms.
COLLEGE & CAREER COUNSELING: San Andreas has a college & career counselor 10 hrs. per wk. In addition to providing information, test materials and counseling on colleges and graduate schools, Judy also coordinates services with the School-To-Career Program to develop internships and job shadowing opportunities for students.
SPECIAL PROJECTS: Creative and hands-on instruction is promoted at San Andreas and the results are a variety of special projects such as our student garden, theatrical studies, Peace Day, Cinco de Mayo celebration and Ropes Courses.
PERSONAL COUNSELING: San Andreas students have a Full Circle intern 24 hours per week who provides personal counseling services. This is an essential service, as many San Andreas students have a number of significant issues that can be helped through counseling.
